What do monastics offer their brothers and sisters?
What do they help us remember about Christian life?
The monastic community,
knowing that it is part of the church
and offering the church all the intensity of its love,
contributes its strengths, its potential, and its gifts
to the ecclesial pléroma:
the centrality of the leitourghía,
its praxis of following the Lord,
and its life of communion.
Monasticism and ecumenism
can no longer be understood apart from each other.
In the journey toward reconciliation
among the churches,
monasticism plays a particularly important role,
because it permits a conmon life,
in which it is possible to live together reconciled,
working patiently toward full unity
in a church of churches able to recognize one another
in a single confession of faith.
