Christos Yannaras was born on April 10, 1935, in Athens. He studied theology at the University of Athens and Philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Paris. He holds a Ph.D. of the Faculty of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and also of the the University of Sorbonne (Paris). He has been nominated Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa, at the University of Belgrade and at St. Vladimir’s Seminary (New York) and the Holy Cross School (Boston); Visiting Professor at the Universities of Paris (Catholic Faculty), Geneva, Lausanne and Crete; Professor of Philosophy at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, from 1982 to 2002; and was elected member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society. He is one of the outstanding and most influent theologians of contemporary Orthodoxy, with a wide popularity in all the christian world.
