For our brother Enzo

1st september 2026 

Christ is risen from the dead,
with death he has destroyed death
and to the dead in tombs
he gives life.

With these words of the Easter troparion, which we sing every Sunday morning to express our faith in the resurrection of Christ from the dead, we give you the sad news that on 1 September our brother Enzo Bianchi has fallen asleep in the Lord. Our faith in the resurrection gives us hope that our communion has not ended. Nevertheless, every parting is a loss. However, it is also a motive to remember and to be grateful for what we have lived, even despite contradictions. Now it becomes a memory and an occasion to give thanks for the person who was at the beginnings of the Bose Community and who accompanied it for a long time as its prior.

As you know, dear friends, the last few years have been very painful for our Community. We have suffered and have caused others to suffer. Evil, however, does not render the good vain, and in this moment we want to give thanks for everything that Enzo has taught us and for the brother that he was and remains.

Time was lacking to arrive at a visible reconcilement, which a few weeks ago began to be expressed in concrete steps. We feel obliged, therefore, to share with you the most significant passages of a recent exchange of messages between Enzo and the prior of the Community on the occasion of the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord.

Enzo’s message

Dear Sabino, dear brothers and sisters,

I would have liked to write to you around 20 July, but unfortunately an eye infection had rendered me blind and even now I am not able to see well with the one eye that remains. My health is not good; in fact, soon I will have to return for dialysis and am conscious that by now I am at then end of my days and that the time has come to unfurl the sails … I would like in these last days that ways might be found for a visible reconciliation with you and that it might be possible to meet and see one another … I hope that this may happen before I depart. Let us find a way that I may die in peace and reconciliation with you … Happy feast, in joy and hope, and be assured of my and our intercession. With faithful affection, Enzo

Sabino’s reply

Dear Enzo

Thank you for your message and your fraternal words. I am happy to hear from you, especially on this day, in which we recall our alliance with the Lord and with each other, an alliance that in spite of being tested by our pettiness does not fail, because the Lord is faithful. Because of this we remember you at every Eucharist.

Your desire for a meeting echoes my own, in the hope that we may exchange words of reconciliation. More than once I have asked to see you. Now I receive with joy your request. I believe that it will be good, as you say, for us to see each other … to imagine together in what way it might be possible for you to meet our brothers and sisters … Let me know when it will be possible for you.

I pray also for your health, that the burden may not be too heavy for you.

May the Lord bring to fruition these thoughts of peace.

I embrace you and wish you and those who live with you a serene feast of the Transfiguration.

Unfortunately, immediately after this exchange, Enzo was hospitalized because his health worsened notably. Thus the meeting desired by both parties became impossible. We, the brothers and sisters, treasure this desire as a precious gift; it is realized now in the hands of God, who alone knows the heart of each.

We believe it important to share these words with you, our friends., with you who have suffered on account of what wounded our Community and who have prayed and hoped together with us.

Together with Enzo, we remember also the brothers and sisters who were close to him during the last few years at the Madia and the brothers of Cellole.
