From 20 August to 31 September 2010 the Dombes Group held its annual meeting at the Pradines monastery of Benedictine nuns in the Lyons region (France). This international group of ecumenical dialogue, which counts about forty Catholic and Protestant members, of whom our br. Matthias is one, dedicated this session to finishing its work on the theme of the Our Father.

The common work on the Lord’s prayer, which obviously and fortunately does not represent a point of controversy among Christians, allowed the participants to verify, on the basis of a concrete text, the authenticity of the ecumenical statements of the Churches. For example, is it truly possible to address the heavenly Father by calling him “our” while still being divided as brothers and sisters? The life of common prayer of the Dombes Group itself has sustained this search in the last few years.

The results of the work will be rendered public at the beginning of next year in a book published first in French. “If this text will be credible,” said one member of the Group, “it is because we have been touched and converted by the Father.”
