St. Anthony the Great is recognised by ancient tradition as the ‘Father of monks’ and is the first monk whose writings have been handed down, although his influence on subsequent generations depends mainly on the Life of Anthony written by St. Athanasius of Alexandria, a work that spread widely throughout the ecumene and became the model for Christian hagiography.

We are pleased to announce that the Monastery of Bose, in collaboration with the Orthodox Churches, will organise and host the 31^st International Ecumenical Conference on Orthodox Spirituality from 2 to 5 September 2025. The title of the conference will be: Anthony the Great, the “Father of monks”.
